So, did you know I still get complaints from readers who tell me that the modern dialogue and cuss words in Northlanders is “wrong” somehow? I do, at least one email or blog entry each time an issue ships. But, I have a solution! An old acquaintance Arni Beck, Icelander and product of a thousand years of Viking DNA, wanted me to pass this along:
“when you get those emails, just tell them to go to a viking country. the vikings will then tell them to shut the fuck up.”

Vikings didn’t talk like Thor back in the day either. So I don’t get their problem.
well my mum is originally from limerick. a city that was grown as a port for the vikings and a common word for being up to mischief used to be skitin’(sky tin) which really means that your up to shit. she used always say ‘Stop skitin’ around and go out and play.’ when we were tiny.
the word seems to be extremely related to shit from norse.

i can totally imagine the norse to english updating in your work as an accurate representation of vikings being normal.
and we curse like troopers here in ireland, so i can see guys i know when you write.
if you were to be accurate to the era then you’d be writing this in old norse and some other languages we don’t speak now and i don’t think that could be read to easily.
