Becky Cloonan found this last night, what looks like a student film adaptation of our Demo story. It’s pretty interesting, and seems to use my dialogue word for word. I have had a lot of students contact me over the years asking if its okay for them to use Demo stories for class assignments, and I always say yes, so if anyone knows of any others out there, let me know.

2 DMZ questions.
1) Between issues # 31 and 32, there was an assassination attempt. Did this happen off panels or were there missing pages due to the preview at the end of the book?
2) Are you writing DMZ with a master plan with an endgame in mind (like 100 Bullets) or are you just telling stories for just the sake of telling stories (like Northlanders)?
1. There were no missing pages… that wouldn’t happen that way (?). We see that Parco gets shot at the start of #29. We see the setup and the muzzle flash at the end of #31, and midway through #32 we get our first glance at Parco in a hospital bed.
2. Not sure how to interpret this question and its tone. I think first I would reject the notion that Northlanders is just “stories for the sake of stories”. As far as DMZ goes, there is absolutely an endgame, and I’ve gone on the record many times stating that it will likely end around the 60-70 issue mark.
i’m constantly unsure in what tone to take tom’s comments….
Usually, Vertigo books are divided into two camps: on-going series with finite ending;
and limited (or un-limited) series.
Some books are hard to gauge, like Air for example.
Hellblazer is the only Vertigo title on-going that changes writers from time to time.
Fables is a combination of the two camps.
Willingham says it will go on forever (BUT I’M NOT GOING TO LIVE FOREVER!).
So, I gotta stick with books that’ll have an ending at some point.
No tone intended.
Just satisfying my never-ending curiousity.
And Mr. Jock: have you finished that OGN of Hellblazer yet? If not, get back to work!!!
This just reminds me how very bad I want to see a film student to do an episode of Local.
Holy shenanigans…that was pretty cool.
What’s your favourite Viking movie?
What’s your influence regarding Northlanders?
Probably The 13th Warrior, which is pretty decent. Also the book it’s based on, The Eaters Of The Dead. But its not like there are a lot of good Viking films to choose from.
Biggest influence, initially, was The Yakuza Papers, that collection of post-war Japanese mafia films.
