THE LOSERS starts shooting in two weeks time, in Puerto Rico. The cast is set, the locations scouted and the wardrobe fitting is next week. Will Jensen be wearing his Lennon glasses? Will Cougar have the same style cowboy hat? We shall see…
Up until yesterday, I’d not allowed myself to actually think it was happening, as it’s been well over 3 years since we first met Pete Berg and things started moving. Three (maybe four) directors along the way, hearing it had stalled a number of times, we thought it was unlikely it’d see the light of day. I’m sure that’s part of the course in the movie world, but as it’s been both mine and Andy’s first experience with film, we’ve erred on the side of caution so as not to get our hopes up too much. But it got cast. It got a shooting date. It got a release date. Still, every time we didn’t hear anything for a few weeks, we assumed it probably wasn’t happening.
But yesterday, Joel Silver gave me a call (that was a first), and asked me to draw a one-sheet movie poster for THE LOSERS, to be given away at San Diego Comicon.
I’ll be drawing a version of #12, with some likenesses of the actors in place of the traditional comic cast. Here’s the original cover, in sketch, b/w and finished form.
I’ll have to squeeze in Idris Elba as Roque too, so I guess he takes the place of the palm tree.
I’m sure he’ll be pleased.

Is there a panel for this at SDCC?
I’m not sure if there’ll be a panel – it starts shooting the friday of SDCC, so the cast and crew will be tied up on location… i’ll see if i can find out when and where something’s happening.

i started reading the losers all the way back from issue one. the cover with the badass chick pointing the gun and you could see the other guys through her legs. that shit was so awesome. i had to buy it.
it was really gripping at first. especially the cliffhanger ending of issue #2 where the tech guy had all the guns pointed at him. but you guys lost me with the never ending conspiracy stuff after a while. it’s been years since i read the losers. i can’t even remember the character’s names. you guys still put this book out or did it end?
i hope it turns out to be a good movie. you’ve had some really nice characters.
