Brian Azzarello has written comics professionally since the mid-1990’s. He is the writer and co-creator with Eduardo Risso of the acclaimed Vertigo monthly series 100 BULLETS, winner of the 2002 Harvey Award and the 2002 and 2004 Eisner Award for best continuing series. Azzarellos’s other writing credits for DC Comics include BATMAN: BROKEN CITY and JONNY DOUBLE, both with Risso, GANGLAND, BATMAN/DEATHBLOW, LEX LUTHOR: MAN OF STEEL, and an Eisner-nominated run on HELLBLAZER. Jock is the pseudonym of British comics artist Mark Simpson, best known for his work with Andy Diggle on the cult British comic 2000 AD and Vertigo’s THE LOSERS. Originally from New Jersey, writer and artist David Lapham began work at 17 as a layout artist for the Ocean County Observer. He began his career in the comic industry at 20, illustrating and helping create many original titles at Valiant Comics, including SHADOWMAN and HARBINGER. The independent publishing company, EL CAPITAN BOOKS, was co-founded in 1995 by David and Maria Lapham, under which they began publishing David’s comic series, STRAY BULLETS. David won an Eisner award in 1996 for Best Writer / Artist, he has been nominated five times in that category. David is also the creator of the comic novel, MURDER ME DEAD. G. Willow Wilson is an American author and essayist who divides her time between Egypt and the US. Her articles about modern religion and the Middle East have appeared in publications including the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine and The Canada National Post.
Willow was born in New Jersey in 1982, and later moved to Colorado. She began her writing career at 17, when she freelanced as a music and DJ critic for Boston’s Weekly Digg while a student at Boston University. After graduating with a degree in History and coursework in Arabic language and literature, Willow moved to Cairo, where she became the first western writer to interview Sheikh Ali Gomaa, the current Mufti of Egypt and one of the most influential clerics in modern Islam. She was a regular contributor to the Egyptian opposition weekly Cairo Magazine until it closed in 2005.
Willow is a convert to Islam and her commentary often addresses Islamic and interfaith issues. An avid supporter of new and alternative media, Willow has written for politics and culture blogs from across the political spectrum, including Eteraz.org and Dean’s World.
Since the age of eleven, when she first picked up a copy of The Uncanny X-Men, Willow has been a dedicated reader of comics and graphic novels. Today she writes both for DC Comics and its literary imprint, Vertigo, specifically the original graphic novel CAIRO and the ongoing monthly series AIR. (website)
