I’ve been a supporter of stopclustermunitions.org over the years, both philosophically and financially, and I’m doing something special with DMZ #50. ”Little Plastic Toys” is a four-page silent story, expertly illustrated by Fabio Moon, and I’m donating my page rates from that story to stopclustermunitions.org.

DMZ #49

This week sees the release of DMZ #49, part 5 of 5 of the “Hearts And Minds” storyline. The cover, at least the cover seen in previews, looks like this:

That is not the actual cover, though. It’s actually redacted to hide the image, which is what this whole issue, this whole arc, and really the story since DMZ #29 is hinging on. If one of the Big Two crossover events say “nothing will ever be the same again!” you might take that with a grain of salt. But I’m saying that now, and from me with a book like this, you can assume I’m just not being hyperbolic.

(Spoilers are inevitable for those who read DMZ in trade. Apologies for that, it was unavoidable)

Northlanders / D&D / The Lord Of The Rings

I’m not 100% sure what I’m reading, but its a lengthy look at Northlanders versus The Lord Of The Rings in the context of a D&D campaign.

What exactly lies at the intersection of Northlanders and Lord of the Rings isn’t clear, and that’s the point. An RPG campaign, like a TV series, is a question, not an answer. Every week we’ll pit these two worlds against each other and see what happens. It won’t always be pretty… but thank heavens for that.

DV8 Re-launch

Artists Rebekah Isaacs and Fiona Staples are joining me in re-launching DV8 for Wildstorm early next year. It’s a back-to-basics sort of re-boot, bringing the series back from 1996* and making it relevant again. More info and a lot of artwork here.

Northlanders Production Crap

I whipped this up for artist Leandro Fernandez, who is taking on the next long Northlanders story “The Plague Widow” (#21-28). It was far easier to give him this than put it into words.

This is something I’ve not done yet in the book – set a story in what is basically a city, complete with blocks, plazas, alleyways, slums, and a police force.

SA World Tour: Brian Wood in Norway

Off to the Oslo Comics Expo this week, flying out of New York on Wednesday with an early morning layover in Reykjavik before landing in Oslo. I had a choice, actually, between Reyk and Paris for layover, but I have quickly learned to fly Icelandair whenever possible. I need to sell a few more Northlanders before I can afford to travel “Saga Class”, though.

Might be writing a column for a news site about the whole experience – the festival, Oslo, and my Northlanders research – and I’ll keep you all posted on that.
