So, 2 issues (and 1 festive short story) into Milligan's run, what does everyone think?
We started to discuss Hellblazer on G.W. Wilson's forum, where I was somewhat lukewarm about the first issue. Since then the art has grown on me a bit and the second half of this issue has won me over storywise. And digs at crypto-Tory Tony Blair always get bonus points in my book, despite being somewhat untopical now.
It must be tough to take over this title after 250 issues, as you can't help feeling that every story has already been told (like most superhero titles on the market), I mean it's not like you can send Constantine into outer space to fight space aliens is it.
I reckon I will continue to buy this book until Milligan leaves or until I join the ranks of the long term unemployed (or get lynched for my views on Brave Jade Goody, our nation's new Diana), which ever comes first.
My inner fanboy is secretly quite pleased that Simon Bisley will soon be doing the covers, his first Vertigo covers since Doom Patrol I think(?), I was a big big fan of his when I was a teenager.
My only major grumble about Hellblazer at the moment is that it seems a bit of a short read.
I'd love to see Brett Ewins draw an issue, but sadly that would never be possible. |

I liked the first two issues. I can't claim to have the history with the character that others here have: the first issue of Hellblazer I read was Diggle's first on the book. Despite my best intentions, I've been lax in picking up paperbacks to fill in my knowledge.
I think what I liked the most was how the abortion was handled; it's a topic that even the most well-meaning writers can have difficulty with, and I'd imagine the horror genre might increase the temptation to handle the subject with a certain judgmental attitude. But I think Peter nailed it here, or at least handled the subject in as positive a fashion as the horror genre allows. |

Is that why would I like to see Brett draw Hellblazer or why would that never be possible?
It wouldn't be impossible, just not very likely. It is well documented that in the early '90s Ewins had a breakdown due to over work. He is now unable to work to a deadline, so his comic strip work is a rarity these days. He now concentrates on his painting, but I for one do miss seeing his drawing. Some new Johnny Nemo would be especially nice. |

maybe Peter could convince Glyn Dillon to do some more comic work? i loved the work he did on Shade.

Ah, shit. I got Strange Days presents Johnny Nemo #2 as a gift just a couple weeks ago, did not know that. Bad Company!
Damn.
Hellblazer's warming up now; I think - you know, I'm not sure I like the art a great deal, but it's hard to differentiate between... I find the premise's intro and usage actually somewhat physically aggravating, you know? John C doesn't seem overbothered, but it - they - the scabs, they are something I'd find deeply agitating. Some proper horror chops dropped this ish with fucked up abortion babies... anyone remember the Notional Man from Peter's brief, excellent run on Animal Man? _________________ Mindless |

| I believe Glyn Dillon doesn't do comics work anymore either which is also a shame. I think he now works for Zombie Flesh Eaters studio which work with Jaime Hewlett on his Gorillaz stuff |

| About 5 years ago Brett Ewins did put together a collection of short strips called THE DARK GLOBE. Guest writers included Alan Grant and some bloke called Milligan. The only time I saw a copy I didn't have any money on me, so couldn't get it. I do remember that the reproduction of Ewins art wasn't particularly good though. |

I'd reckon Fegredo is tied up in Hellboy for the forseeable future, which is great because I met him a few years ago(lovely chap) and he experessed a great love of Mignola and his Hellboy stuff.I was quite happy for him when he was announced as the new artist to take over from Mig.
However he probably could do some lovely painted covers.I was always very fond of what he did on Lucifer.I miss that book.

Me too. Not only he would suit on HB perfectly but he and peter have such an amazing work partnership. I really would like to see Duncan on HB. _________________ http://www.twitter.com/cpahl2000
