Ok, now that we know for 100% certain that DMZ is going to be a MAJOR STUDIO TV PRODUCTION*, let's cast this thing.
Who do you guys think should play Matty?
I'm still thinking about that one, but I do know that Danny Trejo is going to be involved one way or another.
*-And by 100%, I mean we pretty much don't know anything at all _________________ www.dinareadscomics.com

As long as it is reported that I am playing Dina I will gladly forfeit Dina's life. _________________ Muthafucka I'm ill |

| This thread right here was the sole reason I signed up for account instead of lurking. I was going to think up the perfect cast and get some good discussion going and...and I got nothing. Is DMZ impossible to cast? I don't know, but my mind completely blanks when trying. I did come up with someone who might be able to pull off a decent Matty, and that's Mark Webber. Anyone ever seen him in anything? The first (and come to think of it, maybe only) thing I've seen him do was the lead in Bomb the System. It's a flawed movie, but it's got some nice cinematography and some really nice graffiti. The thing that really stands out is Webber's performance. He's also playing Stephen Stills in the Scott Pilgrim movie, I believe. |

Interesting factoid - the writer/director of Bomb The System wrote a pretty great screenplay for Channel Zero many years ago, but the deal fell apart.
I like Mark Webber, but he doesn't feel like Matty to me. I'm not sure who does.

Channel Zero would be right up that guy's alley.
The problem with casting DMZ, or at least the problem I run into, is that there's a severe lack of genuinely talented young people in Hollywood. Like, I can't even name a single person who could play a halfway decent Zee. |

I can barely think of any actors name for anything... I'm just not in the know. Everytime I check out a new TV show most of the actors are strangers to me. So I bet there's a Zee somewhere... she probably won't look like the comic, but that's okay.
I've traded emails with Bryan Greenberg, who is a fan of the book and seem to really 'get it'. He could be a Matty, although we haven't spoken about it. I liked him in Unscripted.

For some reason I see Rob McElhenney(the guy who plays Mac on It's Always Sunny) playing Matty. It's a combination of the looks and this sense I get that if someone gave the guy a cool dramatic role he would have the breakout moment he deserves. He played an Other on Lost as well, which in some strange way counts for bonus points in my book.
And yeah, Danny Trejo as Parco would be awesome. |

Trejo is decades too old. Otherwise, yeah, he's good otherwise.

You have to have Trejo! In fact, I think he'd make a great President, although that might make it too much like "Escape from New York" |

| Yeah, having someone Trejo's age play Parco sort of misses the point. As for Rob McElhenney...I just wouldn't be able to take him seriously, no matter how good he might be. |
